As far as India-Pakistan relations are concerned, We exhibit a dual attitude. One that of a optimist and the other that of a pessimist.
The optimist,
We think that one day Pakistan will take a U-turn and will become a more responsible state, a state that sees India as a progressive neighbor and a partner with common background. This optimist was responsible for surrendering those glorious opportunities we had to change Pakistan. opportunities including the victory in 1971 war, Kargil incident, the parliament attack and even the arresting of Ajmal Kasab, or those many incidents whe their BAT's cross the border and assault our patrols (the recent beheading of our soldiers). Many of our leaders from Nehru, Sashtri, Indira, Vajpayee and recently MMS, let the hard earned opportunities to go off.. they always thought that India is a peace loving nation, and always thought that Our positive action will one day strike the otherwise clever Pakistani heart... I use clever, because, they think what possibly could give them a break to recuperate and hit India again.
The pessimist,
We many time think that we cannot afford to strike Pakistan, with either vengeance or either with the right obligation ensured by justice. We think that either we are not capable of hitting back, or we think that the world "may" brand us as a aggressor. But the world respects the state which attacks to save its sovereignty, eg., the Israel. We tend to under estimate our strengths and always uphold our weaknesses... we think that our army is solely for defense and we should never cross our borders as invaders... we are living in some difficult situations, which is even demanding the Japanese to revisit their military doctrine to defend a bunch of rocks in the pacific... And we also think that with our growing might we should act "responsibly" in our neighborhood, even when others constantly bully us... from pakistan to Srilanka, our neighbors think they can over run India if they strike at the right time.. Yet the pessimist in us will bind us from even using strong words, fearing that the neighbor may turn into a foe, when they are betrayers already...
High time to change our attitude or we may well end up the rubble, which is what our neighbors are striving to make us.
